**** Do to Wild Salmon's natural life cycle and our commitment to use
the freshest fish possible, the texture and color may change
during the season. ****
Salmon have a 4 year life cycle. Eggs hatch in upper
rivers, salmon fry grow 1-2 years then make it out to sea and
live for 2-3 years in the open ocean then return to the exact
place to spawn and eventually die. During this cycle we use
salmon caught in the open ocean and fish caught before entering the
river. Salmon caught in the open ocean are feeding on krill (baby
shrimp) so there meat is reddish and fatty. Then
before they enter the river they stop eating and the meat
turns slightly pinkish and are less fatty (much leaner- so fish is much
lighter in color) , but same nutritional value regardless of the
color.
Any company selling Salmon treats with constant color and
texture most likely adds color or additives to keep the color and
texture consistant. Since SALMON PAWS have made a commitment NOT
to add food coloring, this texture and color of our product may change
from time to time. Still the finest SALMON MEAT (center cut of the
sock-eye salmon , caught out of the pristine waters of Alaska!
